This blog includes 52 Stories in 52 Weeks, which was done in 2007, along with some metaphysical or life lectures. There is artwork and videos, too. I started writing and drawing with two hands around the year 2001 as a mental and brain development experiment on my own brain to restructure my brain's neurons, etc. again. Simply put, using two hands to write and draw forces both sides of the brain to connect together, to become a holistic, stronger, improved brain. I hope you enjoy my blog.

52 Stories in 52 Week: ## 50 The Magic Of Angels And Mirrors!

By: Mr. George D. Patnoe., Jr.'s Ambidextrous Brain + Spiritual Mind.

The two ladies were stuck in the convalescent room together; as they lived together, living day to day with in a slow pace as older people usually do. As the situation is in many convalescent rooms and hospital rooms, the convalescent room is sometimes divided with a colorful patterned curtain in order to give the two people some privacy when privacy is needed between two people who can not escape from each other they are trapped in a convalescent room.

Their convalescent room was divided so that the hallway door was closer to Lee, while the window was closer to the other person. It seemed to be the luck of the draw, but Edith knew that she had been lucky to be placed closer to the window instead of the door. Edith loved the window for many reasons. She could watch the changing weather as she pondered her life on planet earth and the lessons she had learned during her life. Edith had learned long ago that watching someone’s idea of life on a television set was not living life at all. Moreover, Edith also had gain more privacy next to the window because people usually could not see that deep into her particular room.

Lee on the other hand, was not bothered by her location next to the door because Lee was never a pondering person, nor an outdoor person. But she always loved to watch people in a hallway, or on television, or even in a shopping mall. Moreover, Lee had always been a couch potato because she loved to watch television as she wished she could have lived another life, as some of the characters on the daily soap operas. Lee had no desire to try living life, so she just watched what she considered life was on the television screen. Even watching a sunset from the safe place behind a window with a heater warming up the room and her body was a strange concept to Lee.

Their room had one big television in the middle and two smaller televisions that hung from the ceiling. Edith had long ago moved the bigger television closer to Lee’s side because Edith did not really usually enjoy watching television shows, except at certain times of the day or night; when she wanted to know the weather before she traveled outdoors for a walk or for a simple sit down on a park bench; but especially so she could view the evening sunsets.

Lee on the other hand loved to watch nothing but fiction television. She loved to watch any program that did have to make her think about her life, or life in general. Lee believed that she could not do anything to change her life, so why try to make the world a better place. So Lee usually watched the television shows that tried to portray the individualized lives of people. Lee loved to watch how people acted on television, but she never trusted anyone in real life. Lee was not a talker either. She just listened to the words that blared from the television set’s speakers.

On the other hand, Edith loved the life outside the window; even though that life outside the window did not have the same twenty-four hour action that the television did. But the life outside the window had the real roses, and the real sunsets. Edith especially loved watching the changing colorful sunsets because they were always different, even from the same window. When the sun slowly lowered beneath the earth’s horizon, the cloud’s colors would lit up with changing shades of oranges, and reds, and yellows. Edith would always unnecessarily protect her spot by the window, so she could open the window shade at the exact moment when the sunset started providing its earthly astral show. Then, she would either sit down or stand up to stare out the window. Even though most people wrongly guessed that all sunsets were almost exactly alike, Edith had seen so many different sunsets, that she could never predict exactly what kind of sunset would transpire on any given evening.

Lee would rather watch the usually violent nightly news on her television; with its bloody wars and car accidents; along with all of the varied programs about everything from the local news like the weather and sports and sometimes political news. Sometimes she would watch a sport’s game like baseball. She never saw a sunset on the nightly news or in a sports game, but if she did happen to be walking outside during the moment of a sunset, she would just look down towards the sidewalk so she could walk faster towards her television set. When she arrived to the television set, Lee would grab onto and then hold the television’s remote control and protect it from being lost or stolen. She would also hold onto the TV Guide to read the listings of television shows. Every season, there was a different television show at night or a different soap operas during the day.

One day, a seemingly younger, yet glowing female stranger visitor walked into the convalescent room. She was holding onto the two brown paper cover objects that looked rather heavy. As she greeted Edith and Lee, the visitor very carefully unwrapped the objects. Edith watched the stranger, but Lee kept her eyes on the television set. The objects were slowly revealed as strange looking mirrors with golden frames with colorful angels and cherubs engraved and painted all around the mirrors. The visitor asked Edith and Lee where they would like the mirrors hang on the wall.

Edith and Lee both looked confused as they inwardly silently questioned the strange visitor with a smirks of why did they need strange looking mirrors in their convalescent room. The visitor quickly picked up on the questioning smirks, so she answered the wordless wondering ladies. The visitor started to speak a few words about the mirrors. ‘I know that you are wondering about these beautiful mirrors; like why I am presenting these angel and cherub framed mirrors to each of you. But these are not ordinary mirrors. These mirrors reflect back to your mind, to your consciousness everything that you wanted to hide from yourself and from world, but not what you can hide from the Mind of God. The mirrors are also going to communicate to you your desires and wishes and dreams and even the lessons you have learned during your life. You will be able to change a few of those desires and wishes and dreams and even the lessons of life before you leave planet earth.

Lee smirked as if the visitor was a crazy person, while Edith was beginning to enjoy the metaphysical and psychological possibilities of searching and probing her mind for whatever she might have missed before she was going to leave planet earth.

The visitor found the nails under the walls by using a yellow plastic cover stud finder. She guided the yellow plastic stud finder along the wall until it beeped or when a small yellow lights blinked. Even so, while Lee watched the television, Edith watched the visitor’s hand move the nail finder across the wall, and when it peeped and lit up, the visitor stopped her hand and marked the wall with a pencil. The mysterious visitor looked over to see Lee watching her television shows, while she glanced at Edith prying eyes, watching the unexpected events unfolding in front of her eyes. The nameless visitor said, ‘These mirrors are like this stud finder. The stud finder finds what the eye can not see. So the mirrors will reflect what the mind can not see.’

The visitor smiled at Edith because Edith was attentive towards another priceless moment of self-discovery. ‘This is a precious moment in your life for self-reflection. In this crazy world of change, most people are to deflected by world events, or by being involved in the world of people and things. But watching the external world without watching the internal universe of one’s mind and consciousness is like watching a sports game on television instead of playing in the game. No one can experience a sports game by watching it on television. The players are different than the watchers! And yet, most watchers do not play the game of self-reflecting, while the game’s players are always questioning their moments on the game; how to improve their game, or their life.

She nodded her head negatively as she looked over at Lee. ‘Most people in the world do not search for the true meaning and purpose of their lives, but you have. We know this because your mind is always questioning life while you are watching those precious sunsets. Because you would rather watch nature’s magical sunsets instead of the phony television shows, we are allowing you and even Lee to have a very special chance at self-reflection before your last breath.’ Edith simply smiled at the visitor’s compliment.

Lee gave a rather loud responsive huff to the visitor’s words. The television’s was blaring out the nightly news of a war’s bombings overseas, even as Lee’s eyes were glued to the television screen as if she was an expert military advisor who was doubting every decision that the generals were making. Of course, Lee never had never studied war or military strategy at anytime throughout her lifetime, but she tried to outguess the generals who had lived the military life from the day they were born into the world of war and killing.

The visitor packed up her equipment and turned towards Edith before she stated, ‘Enjoy the mirror Edith. You too, Lee!’ as she walked out the convalescent room.

Edith and Lee were free to choose what they were going to do with their new angelic framed mirrors. As anyone’s guess, Lee kept her eyes focused directly at her wide black framed television set while Edith wondered about her colorful cherub framed mirror instead of watching her wide black framed television.

Edith looked and the gold frame and its colorful cherubs. She wondered from where the lady had arrived from. But she wondered more about the mysterious mirror. It sure looked different. As Edith glared into the mirror from her bed, she noticed the changing streaks of colorful lights within the mirror. The colorful changing lights were so like the sunsets that Edith had glared at over the years. She had purposefully glared at each sunset in order to memorize the colors and shapes of each sunset. She practiced this sunset memorizing just in case the unfortunate happenstance that she would never, ever see another sunset again. Plus, it was nice to recall any sunset she wanted to anytime of the day or night, just for the fun of it.

Edith looked over towards Lee and asked her, ‘Hey Lee, can you look at your mirror and tell me if you see anything strange.’

Lee quickly glanced towards her mirror just to appease Edith. ‘Nope! The mirror’s reflection just looks a dark black to me.’

Edith responded, ‘What do you mean dark?’

Lee quickly answered, ‘It looks black to me. But nice frame though.’

Edith looked towards Lee’s mirror and she only saw the glowing and colorful shades of reds, oranges, and yellows streaks of lights in the mirror. ‘Strange!’ thought Edith. ‘Lee sees only a dark and blacken mirror, but I see the glowing and colorful reds, oranges, and yellows streaks of lights in the mirror.’ She quietly pondered the difference between Lee’s mirror and her mirror.

After a while she stood up and walked passed Lee’s mirror to walk out of the room. As she walked passed Lee’s mirror, Edith saw again, only the shiny and glowing shades reds, oranges, and yellows streaks of light in Lee’s mirror.

‘Is the mirror really reflecting what we have in our minds?’ a questioning Edith thought to herself. Edith walked down to a hallway bathroom. She opened a door and looked into the bathroom’s mirror. She looked into the plain silver steel framed mirror. All she saw was her aging skin and hair. She smiled into the mirror and the mirror returned her smile back at her.

‘Well, at least I know I am not going out of my mind.’ thought Edith. She walked back to her room.

Edith walked into the convalescent room; only to observe Lee’s eyes still glued towards the television. For some reason Lee had lowered the television’s volume; but still, everything was normal; except for the two angelic framed mirrors on the wall. As Edith walked pass each cherub framed mirror, she again, saw the shiny and colorful shades of oranges, reds, and yellowish streaks of lights in each mirror. ‘At least I know it is not in my mind, or is it?’ thought Edith.

Edith walked over to her convalescent room’s window. It was about that time when the sun was leaving the eyes of the people world. As it began its descent under the earth’s horizon, the usual invisible nightly abstract sky painter would begin to light up the sky with the different patterns of the bright shades of orange, reds, and yellows streaks across the sky. Edith’s mind began to lit up with gratitude for another glowing sunset, as she silently said good night to the sun for another day. She also said hello to another dark night of silence when she could either watch television, which she did sometimes; or she could think about the multi-dimensional universe that unties all realms within and without the universe of seemingly space and time.

As Edith’s eyes looked pass her reflection on the clear glass window, she saw the reflection of Lee too. She was beginning to feel sorry for Lee, when all of a sudden, a thunderbolt struck from the high above the sunset, behind the convalescent home. In an instant, the electrical power stopped and so did Lee’s television.

Lee was so mad that she threw her television remote control on Edith’s bed. Then she mouthed a few angry words before she stood up. Edith almost began to laugh at Lee but a spontaneous idea popped into Edith’s mind. ‘Get that Lee over to the window now, before it is to late for her mind to see beyond the television screen’ before she turns the televisions set back on.

‘Hey Lee, why don’t you walk over here for a minute. You just got to see this event outside the window.’ that is what Edith said to Lee.

Lee was so mad that without thinking about the anything, she quickly marched over to the window to view the event that Edith mentioned. Lee approached the window with her angry mind. She looked down towards the street before she loudly questioned, ‘What the heck is so important out there, Edith?’

‘Lee, look a little higher.’ responded Edith.

Lee looked up towards the sunset before she replied, ‘All I see is a sunset.’

‘Have you ever seen such a beautiful sunset as that Lee?’ questioned Edith.

‘I have never seen a sunset.’ said Lee.

‘Well, there is a first time for everything.’ replied Edith, before she wrapped her arm around Lee’s shoulder, just to force Lee to watch the sunset. ‘Hey Lee,’ started Edith, ‘There is nothing to watch on television and no where to go. So why not spend a few minutes watching this sunset with your roommate, Edith.’ It was more of a command than a request, so Lee would be given her chance to view at least one sunset before she died.

It was on of those rare moments in life when one human being has listened to the voice of the angels, in order to help another human being wake up from their limited concept of life. In this case, it was Lee’s limited concept of life on television, which was even worse that those who lived a real human life without ever viewing a brightly colorful sunset; a sunset that some say was painted by the invisible hand of the Grand Creator.

Edith stood her ground by Lee, as Lee’s eyes slowly crept out towards the sunset. Edith looked over towards Lee. Edith began to see a spark of curiosity within the eyes of Lee. ‘Well there Lee, what do you think of the sunset?’

Lee smiled as she hesitatingly replied, ‘It is nice, isn’t it? I did not know that sunsets could be so beautiful, or colorful.’

‘Well, sometimes the sunsets are very beautiful and sometimes they are not so bright and colorful. But viewing the sunsets is a nice way of saying goodbye to the day and hello to the night.’

‘You sound as if you love the sunsets, Edith.’ stated Lee.

‘Yes I do. And if you look long enough at a bright sunset, you can memorize it for those times when there are no sunsets. You can think about the bright shades of orange and red and yellow, and even the changing blues about the sunset. Even the darkness arrives by changing the day into the night, to allow us to remember of the dream world’s of our minds, or of the cosmic universe above our night dreams or even our day dreams.’

After the sunset had disappeared, after Edith and Lee had formed a new bound of mutual understanding about sunsets and life, they turned around to return to their lives. As Lee passed her new colorful cherub covered golden framed mirror, she unexpectedly stopped short and stated, ‘That is strange, I see a spark of light within the darkness of the mirror. That spark of light was not there before, so where did it come from?’ asked Lee.

Edith smiled at Lee when she was beginning to realize that Lee was beginning to see the spark of the light of life that is only reflected from our souls only after we touch the Light of the Mind of God, or even the light of a beautiful sunset that might be painted by the Mind of God, or even by the mind of a human cosmic painter. Many thinkers believe that we paint our own sunsets!

Edith watch as Lee picked up the remote and she began to hit the remote’s buttons. She kept hitting the buttons over and over again. But she did not find a televisions show that she wanted to watch. Finally, Lee turned off the television and she fell asleep early. After a long night’s sleep, Lee woke up early and she found Edith getting ready to walk to eat a good breakfast. The sun was again shining after billions of years of shining; and although most people do not think in terms of billions of cosmic light years, Edith knew that she was blessed just to view each sunrise and sunset even if she did not understand the how and whys of sunsets.

But Edith was amazed at Lee’s newly profound interest in sunsets. And every day at dusk, both Edith and Lee would view the sunset together, if only for five or ten minutes; sometimes much longer. Even though neither Edith or Lee ever went to church, they began to think more and more about angels and life beyond planet earth; mainly because life beyond planet earth was speaking to them. They became sunset buddies, in a manner of speaking.

After each sunset, Lee would look into the mirror and she would always state to Edith, ‘That spark of light is getting bigger and bigger. I do not understand why the mirror’s reflection is shining brighter and brighter every time I look into it after each sunset. It I did not know better, I would think that I am reflecting the sunset in the mirror or the mirror is reflecting the sunset in me. What do you think Edith?’

Edith replied, ‘Remember what that lady visitor said Lee. Why don’t we both look into the magic mirror together and see what happens.’ So they both stood in front of the mirror and they glared into the mirror as if it was a divine rite of passage for two seemingly old ladies. As they held hands, and looked into one of the golden framed cherub and angelic covered mirrors, they began to see the light glow brighter and brighter, until they felt their human souls leave the convalescent room.

As they traveled towards the Infinite Light called God, they looked into the Grand Light just as when they had practiced looking into the sunset’s light. And just as they felt their souls being changed by the light of the sunset; they too, felt their souls being changed by the Infinite Light called God. As they melted into the Grand Infinite Light called God, they felt their human souls change from being human to being divine. And somehow, in someway, they still remember the grand sunsets of planet earth.

About Me

When I was in college studying International Economics/Finance, I was also wondering how to develop a more powerful brain. So in 2001,I began a very specialized ambidextrous brain exercise program, for two hours per day,for many years. Those brain exercise began with me writing out words, mostly verbs, with both hands in different patterns. That developed into dual handed sentence writing to longer stories and dual handed drawing exercises.Details are for future books.I did these two hour brain workouts as a personal experiment to restructure my brain's neurons for the purpose of making my brain stronger for writing and language development; for logically creative storying writing. As far as I know, I am the only person in the course of history to have developed these ambidextrous hand/brain exercises. The purpose of these ambidextrous brain exercises is to strenghten both sides of the brain for language skills development, and to connect both sides of the brain together for language skills development. There is a very logical neurological reason for using two hands to write and draw as brain exercises. I also draw with both hands. 52 Stories is my testament!
